The Shanghai weather forecast (上海天气预报) is generally hot and humid. Shanghai is the largest city in China in terms of population and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with over 20 million people. Shanghai has a subtropical maritime monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. Generally, the warm spring and cool autumn are the most comfortable seasons to visit the place. Summer in Shanghai is very hot and moist, with occasional downpours and freak thunderstorms. Spring can be quite changeable while autumn is one of the most pleasant time with mild temperature (around 24-28° Celsius) and many sunny days.

Shanghai sits on the Yangtze River Delta on China's east coast roughly equidistant between Beijing and Hong Kong. Shanghai is located in Jiangsu province but is administered as a separate governmental unit. The vast majority of Shanghai's 6,218 km2 (2,401 sq mi) land area is flat, apart from a few hills in the southwest corner, with an average elevation of 4 m (13 ft).
